Terms of use for the trail journal

These rules cover how the route reports, gear notes and weekend walk postings on this site may be used, and what we expect from walkers who read them or send in notes of their own.

What this journal is

Orebic Trail Collective is a trail journal and walking club for coastal and mountain routes in South Africa. Reports, gear notes and weekend walk postings are written by a small group of hikers who test paths on foot and record what they found: distance, elevation, water points, wind exposure, seasonal timing and trail conditions.

Observations, not guarantees

Everything published here is a record of what we saw on a given day. Paths get overgrown, markers fade, water sources dry up and shortcuts appear. Treat each report as a starting point for your own planning rather than a fixed description of the route.

Your side of the bargain

Walkers plan their own routes and read conditions rather than promises. You decide whether a path suits your fitness, your footwear and the weather on the day, and you carry what you need to get back safely. Nothing on this site replaces your own judgement on the ground.

Group walks and submitted notes

Weekend group walks are posted with meeting points and difficulty grades so you can judge whether a walk fits you. Route notes you send in are read by the same people who write the reports, and we may edit them for length and clarity before they appear.

Limits of our responsibility

We write up what we found, and that is the extent of it. We do not supervise your walk, we do not check conditions on the day you go out, and we cannot be held responsible for decisions you make on a route after reading a report here.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the journal grows or as the way we handle submitted notes changes. The current version always applies to the site as it stands. For legal questions about these terms, write to contact@orebic-outdoors.com.
