How Orebic Trail Collective handles the route notes and enquiries walkers send us, and what you can ask us to do with your own.
What we collect
The contact form asks for your name, email address, the route or trail name, a region, a difficulty grade and your trail notes. The group walk checkbox is optional and only adds you to weekend walk notices.
When a form is submitted, the handler also records the submission time, the form identifier, the page language, the source query string from the URL and the values you typed.
Where it goes
Submissions are written to a local log file at /private/submissions.jsonl on the server that runs this site. They are read by the small group of hikers who put the trail journal together.
There is no account system, no comments, no orders, no payments and no subscription list behind this site. We do not pass your notes to third parties.
How long we keep it
There is no automatic deletion schedule. Entries stay in the log until the site owner removes them by hand.
If you want your notes taken out sooner, write to us and we will delete the entry from the log.
Your rights
You can ask to see the notes held against your name, have them corrected, have them deleted, or receive a copy in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent for the optional group walk list at any time.
Where South African data protection law or, for visitors from those regions, the GDPR and CCPA apply, we honour these requests on the same terms.
What we do not do
We do not make misleading claims, invent urgency, publish fake endorsements or imply an official affiliation we do not have. Route reports describe what club walkers found on the ground, nothing more.
Photographs on the site come from club walks rather than stock libraries.
Privacy enquiries
